Chasing Dreams Beyond the Rainbow

Animals fleeing or leading, enticing or cajoling the people into a place beyond the hill—or is it a rainbow? While ghostly figures watch from beyond. Is this how we get to the afterlife?

We can only guess what inspired this art, what dreams or ceremonies compelled the artist to leave this record on the stone walls of this ancient canyon in what is now Canyon de Chelly National Monument, a place known in native languages as Tsegi.
